A therapeutic technique that our professionals at Laura Michie, LLC are trained in and have experience with is LSVT Loud. LSVT Loud is an evidence-based speech therapy for people with Parkinson disease and other neurological conditions such as atypical parkinsonisms and dementia. Common speech problems for people with Parkinson disease include soft voice, mumbled speech, monotone speech, and a hoarse voice. Medicine and neurosurgery typically do not show voice improvements with this population. Traditionally, speech treatments for people with PD have focused on articulation and rate of speech. LSVT Loud targets increasing vocal loudness. This treatment technique has documented improved vocal loudness, speech intelligibility, and increased facial expression. LSVT Loud has also shown evidence to effectively improve the voice and speech of children with cerebral palsy or Down syndrome.
