Joanna graduated from Nazareth College in NY in 2010 earning a bachelor of science in communication sciences and disorders. She graduated from Syracuse University in NY in 2016 earning a master of science in speech language pathology.
Joanna provided articulation intervention to school age children at Nazareth Colleges Speech and Language Clinic. She completed her undergraduate student teaching experience at Churchville Chili middle school in NY serving middle school students with a variety of language, literacy and pragmatic difficulties.
At Syracuse University, Joanna gained experience at the Gebbie Clinic providing speech language pathology services to pediatric through geriatric clients. Joanna served on a graduate student voice evaluation and therapy team at Gebbie Clinic and provided therapy to adults w/ paralyzed vocal folds and vocal nodules. She also gained experience serving children w/cleft palate, apraxia and articulation delays at the clinic.
Joanna completed her graduate child externship at the BOCES SKATE (Scaffolding Kids Abilities Through Education) program middle school program in Camillus Middle School in NY with students on the autism spectrum. She targeted language, pragmatic skills and alternative augmentative communication with the students.
Joanna completed her graduate adult externship at Iroquois Nursing Home in NY. She served geriatric clients w/ aphasia, dysphagia and cognitive communication deficits.
Joanna completed her clinical fellowship at Carthage Center for Rehabilitation and Nursing in NY. She was trained to utilize Synchrony biofeedback and omnistim electrical stimulation in treatment of dysphagia.
Joanna worked at Homewood in Frederick, MD for nearly two years and continued to treat adults in an in patient, out patient and short term rehab setting. She later worked at Northampton Manor skilled nursing facility in MD treating adults with a range of diagnoses in an inpatient setting.
Joanna joined Frederick SLP in November 2019 and has provided in-person and virtual services to both pediatric and adult clients. She is certified in LSVT (Lee Silverman Voice Treatment) LOUD, which is designed to treat voice disorders in clients with Parkinson’s Disease and other neurological diagnoses. Joanna also completed the introductory training for PROMPT (PROMPTS for Restructuring Oral Muscular Phonetic Targets) to aid in treating clients with speech delays/disorders.
