Alexa has returned to Frederick SLP after graduating from Florida State University as a certified speech language pathologist. She received her Bachelors of Science with a minor in exceptional education from James Madison University in 2017. Alexa has shadowed and interned at Frederick SLP with Laura for years now, gaining a lot of experience seeing many different patients. During her time at Florida State Alexa worked as an SLP in an elementary school in Tallahassee, Florida. She followed a demanding schedule seeing students struggling with articulation, language, social skills, using AAC, along with working in the special education department with students with Autism Spectrum Disorder.
Alexa completed her clinical externship at a neurological outpatient rehabilitation center in Tallahassee where she treated adults who have deficits in cognition, language, articulation and swallowing. As a graduate student clinician she has experience treating patients at Lively Technical Center, an education transition program and at L.L. Schendel Speech and Hearing Clinic.
Alexa has organized and led support groups for people with neurodegenerative diseases and their families. So far in Alexa’s career she has worked with patients who have Autism Disorder, Down Syndrome, Dysphagia, Dysarthria, Aphasia, hearing loss and neurological disorders of all ages. She has evaluated and treated deficits in language, articulation, social, cognitive, swallowing, pragmatics, literacy delays and voice disorders.
Frederick SLP is happy to continue their professional relationship with Alexa practicing as a certified speech language pathologist where she will treat patients of all kinds.
