Alara graduated with an M.A. in Speech-Language Pathology from The George Washington University in May of 2018. She received a B.S. in both Speech-Language Pathology and Psychology from The University of Texas at Dallas in 2016. Alara is very excited to be completing her Clinical Fellowship Year with Laura.
As a clinical graduate student in speech-language pathology, Alara completed a placement at the Washington Hospital Center; gaining experience in diagnosing and treating aphasia, voice disorders, dysphagia, cognitive-linguistic disorders, and motor speech disorders. She also completed a placement at Alexandria City Public School District; gaining experience with evaluation and treatment in the realms of fluency, articulation, receptive and expressive language, pragmatics and use of AAC (augmentative and alternative communication) devices for children ages 2 to 11 in early intervention, special education, and general education environments.
Alara is also certified in the Lee Silverman Voice Therapy program (LSVT) to better treat individuals with Parkinson’s disease. Alara has a special interest in working with individuals who have suffered a stroke or head injury, individuals with neurodegenerative diseases, and individuals with disabilities. She is passionate about helping all individuals be as independent as possible in their activities of daily living.
