Hello, I’m Laura Michie, M.Ed. M.A., CCC-SLP, a Speech-Language Pathologist
I am a licensed Speech-Language Pathologist who works with infants, children, adolescents, and adults. I also work with families and caregivers regarding acceptance, adaptation, and decisions about communication and swallowing.
My mission is to teach my clients and their families to advocate for full participation in communication in the community. It is my goal to provide quality, compassionate treatment that is designed to meet the needs of the individual in a nurturing and safe environment.
What is Speech Therapy?
Speech Language Therapy focuses on receptive language, or the ability to understand words spoken to you, and expressive language, or the ability to use words to express yourself. It also deals with the mechanics of producing speech, such as articulation, voice, and fluency. Adults may need speech-language therapy after a stroke or traumatic accident that changes their ability to use language; for children, it may involve pursuing milestones in speech and language that have been delayed.
